Kristen Smith was born and raised in the northern suburbs of industrial Detroit, MI.  She has lived and worked in Durango, CO over the past seven years where she received her education in studio art, Japanese, and teaching.  She has also studied culture and language in Osaka, Japan and studio arts at the College for Creative Studies, Detroit.  Kristen focuses on painting portraits of close friends and local celebrities but also keeps her hand in printmaking, pinhole photography, and use of existing materials to create art objects.  She can be contacted at kristen@kristensmithart.com.
